Hey Andy, if someone commits an unforgivable sin, and is going to hell, then couldn’t they just continue to sin, since they’re doomed anyway?
Hey there. Wow, that’s an interesting question, I mean, does that person regret committing the sin, but just figure they’re doomed to hell, or do they not regret it and want to continue in the direction they’re going?
What Is the Only Unforgivable Sin?
The only unforgivable sin is completely rejecting Christ, and it’s unforgivable because the only means by which we’re able to be saved from our sin is by repenting to Him and acceptance of Him through faith – Jesus is what’s needed in order to be saved and enter into Heaven. But if you reject Him up until your death, then you’ve missed your chance to be forgiven.
So if you continue to reject Jesus, then yeah, I guess that would make sense, especially since that’s the decision you’ve made in your heart anyway. It’s like, if you had mud on your hands and rejected every means of washing it off, you might as well dip your hands back in, right? And if you want to have nothing to do with washing off the mud, then might as well jump all in, right?
No Sin Beyond God’s Forgiveness
The thing to understand though, is that no sin is beyond God’s forgiveness – no sin. It doesn’t matter how bad it was, when it was, or even if you meant to do it. If you regret it now, repent to God (through Jesus) for it and ask for forgiveness, then He will forgive you. The only time He won’t forgive you is if you reject Him up through your death, because then it’s too late to ask for it.
So if you’re still living, then no, don’t keep sinning. Instead, repent now, while there’s still time.
