Who Is the Holy Trinity?

Understanding the Holy Trinity

Hey Andy, who are the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, and are they different from the Holy Trinity?

Hi,

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all God:
1) God the Father
2) God the Son
3) God the Holy Spirit.
They’re 3 parts, but all 1 God. This is also the Holy Trinity.

Explaining the Trinity

Let me see if I can explain this better:
Understanding the Holy Trinity

The Trinity is

  1. God the Father
  2. God the Son
  3. God the Holy Spirit

But yet, all three parts are one God.

WE are only one part, but God is three parts. We can’t understand it very well though because we’ve neither seen nor experienced anything that’s three persons (or parts) in one. We’re all one persons in one, and if there are two persons, then it’s two people. But God is three persons in one.

It’s sort of like trying to understand how God doesn’t have a starting point. See, when we understand eternity, we understand it as something having a starting point, and then forever has no ending. Like the first line in this picture:
Understanding God's Eternity
But God doesn’t have a starting point. God’s eternity is like the second line in this picture:
You see, everything that exists in our understanding had a starting point, so it’s beyond our understanding – just like the Trinity.
Now, Genesis 1:2 tells us that the Holy Spirit (Spirit of God, God the Holy Spirit) was hovering over the surface of the formless earth – a formless mass cloaked in darkness. Also, John 1:3 tells us that Jesus (God the Son) was the one who created everything that exists. If He didn’t create it, then it doesn’t exist. Yet the Bible also tells us that it was God who created everything. So if God created everything, and Jesus created everything that exists (if there’s anything He didn’t create, then it doesn’t exist), then Jesus is also God (God the Son).
  1. God the Father
  2. God the Son
  3. God the Holy Spirit

Three parts, One God – The Holy Trinity.
