Hey Andy, why do Christians say God changed the Sabbath to Sunday? (“I am the Lord, I change not,” Malachi 3:6.)
Hi, you have to understand that not all Christians have a grasp on church history, or why we do certain things. And with that in mind, Christians who say that God changed the Sabbath to Sunday don’t really know why we worship on Sunday, and probably just give you the answer that somebody else who doesn’t know the answer, told them.
Why Do Christians Worship on Sunday?
The real reason we worship on Sunday is because we’re celebrating the day that Christ was risen from the dead, and we’re celebrating in worship.
When Is the Correct Sabbath Day?
So when’s the correct Sabbath day? Well, originally, it’s Saturday (beginning Friday night and ending Saturday night). However, the main thing is that everybody must take A Sabbath, regardless of which day it is – a day to unplug from everything and dedicate to the Lord.
As a Pastor
As a Pastor, I would always preach on Sundays, so I couldn’t rest on that day. And Saturdays, I’d be making my last preparations for Sunday’s service, so I couldn’t rest on that day, either. So I usually made Mondays my day of rest. Also, Jewish Rabbis can’t rest on Saturday, for they’re “working” by leading worship and preaching from the Scripture, so they can’t officially take a Sabbath on the Sabbath, either, right?
God Changed the Day Of Sabbath
So the day of rest needs to be altered for some people. But the main reason why we Christians worship on Sunday is not because God changed the day of Sabbath, but because early Christians met together on Sundays to celebrate the day on which Christ was risen from the dead.
