Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
So what exactly is that supposed to mean? I mean, sure, I have a huge percentage of Irish in me, but I’m not into the drinking thing (like so many 100% Irishmen and women are). I’m wearing a green shirt, but I’m sure that’s not what was intended for this day when they made it a Christian holiday. I suppose I can compare my calling to having gone to some foreign lands (Kentucky, Virginia) where I preached the Gospel in a similar way that Patrick did to Ireland; I suppose I could also relate my name to St. Andrew, who was killed in what’s considered Great Britain (hence the “X” on the flag), figuring that Great Britain (England) also took over Ireland. But seriously, some people have school today, some have work today – so really – I’m a bit confused here. What am I supposed to do differently on St. Patrick’s Day? And if nothing, then why is it a holiday (other than for another reason for people (not me) to get drunk, which I doubt Patrick had intended)?
A prayer (supposedly St. Patrick’s):
Christ be with me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me, Christ within me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ at my right, Christ at my left,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks to me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
Maybe you can get something from this prayer and figure out how we’re supposed to be celebrating this day.
