Hey Andy, why do Christians say that Allah is not the same god Christians and Jews believe in? Muslims refer to the god of Abraham not to a different entity. They just say Christians and Jews interpret god’s teaching wrongly. And Christians and Jews say the same about Muslims. But, after all, isn’t it the same God everybody is talking about?
Hi, the reason Christians say that Allah is not the same god as we and Jews believe in is because he’s not. The God we worship is Yahweh, and Yahweh and Allah are not the same. You can tell by their characters and promises. For example:
- Yahweh died for all of creation so that we may be with Him in all eternity, and commands us to love others as He loves us.
But Allah is said to hate creation, and only grants heaven to those who either follow their rules perfectly (which is impossible), or kills others in an act of war and hatred. - Allah promises 70 virgins to the man who kills a whole ton of people in the name of Jihad, and allows Muslims to take up to 4 or 5 women at a time. But Yahweh believes in and taught marriage to one (granted, some in the Old Testament had gone against this, but such was not how God intended it). Yahweh also considers even the desire of 70 virgins, a sin, and Jesus said that if you think of a woman lustfully, then you’ve already committed adultery with her in your heart (which is also a sin).
- Allah‘s prophet (Mohammad) was a political and military figure.
Yahweh‘s Messiah stayed as far away from politics as possible during His stay here. - Yahweh promises peace (Matthew 11:28-30 = “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”)
Allah promises heavier burdens, requires damaging spiritual disciplines, and no peace. - Yahweh commands that we love one another, and puts it up there as a summary of all His commands combined.
Allah is about submitting and hating all who are not of his Islamic faith. - Yahweh loves all His creation and desires for all to come to Him. Granted, He knows all won’t, but Scripture tells us that His desire is that they would.
Allah tells them to mistreat all non-Muslims (extreme tax, forced slavery, kick out of land, or kill). - Yahweh promises to protect and save Israel in the end.
Allah tells Muslims to destroy all Jews — their desire is for the Jews’ ultimate destruction. (Which is odd because originally, Muhammad went to the Jews, claiming to be their final prophet. But when they rejected him and threw him out, he suddenly decided that he would hate the Jews, and teach his followers to do the same.) — they could say that the Apostle Paul did the same when he was continuously rejected by the Jews (his people), but Paul never stopped loving the Jews. He just saw God opening the door for him to spread the Gospel to the Gentiles. He never stopped trying to convince Jews of his time to accept Jesus the Messiah, he just realigned the focus of his target audience for his ministry. Muhammad rejected them altogether and held a grudge so terrible that he passed it on to his followers. - Yahweh offers eternal salvation by simply turning to God through Jesus (though most Jews neither accept nor believe this). Salvation is offered through grace — it’s a mercy move on God’s part.
Allah offers salvation to all who follow all his commands perfectly. If they don’t, then their only other option is dying by killing others in the name of Jihad (holy war). So when you think of it, and this is only a theory, but if you can’t stand up to perfection, then wouldn’t it make sense to obtain salvation with the other option? Like a child who can’t get his parents’ attention by doing good, so he gets it by doing bad. I wonder if this has anything to do with why most Muslim-run countries are war-stricken, and why terrorism is so big among their people? Because when they come to Christ, their hearts are changed completely.
Claim to Abraham:
Muslims base their roots on the fact that Ishmael was a beloved son of Abraham. Our Scriptures acknowledge this, also, but ours also tell that Ishmael was not the son through whom God’s blessing would pass, but through Isaac. And so to back their claims, Muslims claim that the Hebrew Scriptures were altered to favor Isaac and the Jews. But if the Jews had altered their scriptures, don’t you think they would’ve also taken out all the bad things they did, like continuously reject and sin against God, as well as all the battles they lost against other nations? Who else keeps that stuff in their history books? Don’t we all focus on our victories? Yet the Hebrew Scriptures put them in a really bad light. Who does that?
So as you see, Islam does not in fact worship the same god as the Jews and Christians, but one whom they’d made up in their opposition to Isaac’s descendants…an ongoing battle between Abraham’s 2 sons.
In other words, Allah is NOT Yahweh.
