Is the Bible Practical for Everyday Life?

Bible practical

Hey Andy, what would you say if I told you that the Bible is not practical for everyday life? How would you argue with me on that?

How would I argue with you on that? Honestly? I wouldn’t. No really, if you’re expecting me to defend this by telling about how it is, then you’re about to be disappointed, because instead, I’m going to have to agree with you. However, my point in saying this is that if you’re trying to read the Bible in order to use it as a guidebook through life, you know, just a guidebook through life, nothing else, like a self-help, “How can I get through life and be a good person” book, then you’re right when you say that the Bible is not practical for everyday life.

But now understand, if your reading of the Bible brings you closer to God, brings you into a relationship with Jesus Christ, THEN it IS practical for everyday life, because what the Bible does then is it teaches you about God through Jesus (which is the Word of God) — it brings you close to God, and it teaches you how to live for Him.

So it’s about how you’re reading the Bible and why you’re reading it, for if you’re wanting the practicality of it, but it’s not bringing you closer to God, then you’re not reading it in order to become closer to God and to learn how to live for God, so that you MAY live for God through the instructions in the Bible, then you’re right; it’s not practical for everyday life, because you’re not reading it correctly. It needs to be something that brings you closer to God in order for it to be practical for everyday life.
