One night, during my last semester in seminary, it rained real hard…almost hurricane-like weather – I love such weather, always have. I actually feel closer to God when it rains sometimes–so I ran home, put on my rain gear, and walked back outside. As people were running by me like mad, trying to keep from getting too wet, I was calmly strolling down the street, wearing my full rain gear, keeping everything above my knees dry.
Turned Into A Prayer-Walk
This walk soon turned into a prayer-walk. I didn’t know where to go, so I asked Jesus to guide me, and so for about an hour-and-a-half, Jesus took me all over the neighborhood–up and down both streets and alleys. It was awesome! And we had such a great talk, too!
$46K In School Loans
One of the things we talked about was something that He had told me before. During that time, I didn’t have any idea as to where I would be going upon graduation. It was actually a bit frightening, especially when I was reminded of the $46K in school loans that I would need to begin paying back.
But I Trusted Him With My Life
Every time I attempted to work on something for post-graduation, I felt a strong surge go through my body, such as a way of the Lord telling me to stop and leave that up to Him–relationships, finances, call, or anything else–Jesus instead told me not to worry about it. Instead, I should just focus on my classes and getting the assignments and papers done so that I may graduate, and God would handle the rest. I didn’t know how, especially since I wasn’t working to set anything up. But I trusted Him with my life. Therefore, the least I could do is trust Him also with my calling, which He had called me to.
Who Found Me On the Internet
Well, to make a really long story short, I graduated, and literally a week before seminary housing was about to kick me out (sounds contradicting, doesn’t it?), I received a call to a United Methodist church in Morehead, KY – a church that I had not applied to, but who found me on the internet, and a salary to help me get a kick-start on paying back my school loans.
Jesus Told Us Not To Worry
In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus told us not to worry, for such won’t add a day to our life. In fact, modern medicine states that it may actually take some days off. Jesus reminds us that the Father knows what we need, and instead of worrying about our life here, to seek first the Kingdom of God and all His righteousness.
Don’t Worry
I suppose it’s another way of God saying, “Don’t worry, I’ve got this. Instead, keep your focus on Me so I can do My work.”
