Hey Andy, How do I become a Christian? I’m 15, and I’m in need of something to help me through tough times. I don’t want to turn to drugs or alcohol, I just want to better my life and faith. So please tell me how I can become a Christian. I don’t know what I was baptized as, my parents have never told me, and whenever I ask, they always change the topic (my family is very spiritually-closed and we don’t discus religious topics, ever.
Hi, first, I’m very proud of you for not choosing drugs or alcohol, especially as you’re dealing with tough times. I’m also very proud of you and encouraged to hear about your desire to know Jesus, and why you want to know Him.
Step 1: Pray to God
OK, so read this first, then:
- Close your eyes
- Say, “Jesus, I want to know you.”
- With you’re your eyes still closed, explain to Him everything you said in your question, and tell Him what’s on your mind and heart.
- Then, in your own words, ask Him to forgive you for everything you’ve done up to this point and invite Him to come into your heart.
Believe it or not, Jesus will actually help you with the words if needed. I’ll pray for you, also.
Step 2: Find a Church
Once you’ve done all this, you will need to find a church that teaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ (not all do) and get baptized. I’ll pray for you about that, also.
Step 3: Get a Bible and Read It
If you don’t have a Bible, then you’ll need to get one so you can read about Jesus and get to know Him better – He’ll speak to you as you read it, too. If you’d like help reading the Bible, or understanding it better, feel free to email me. You may also read my post, “How should I study the Bible?”. I’ve also got a section on here at the top where you may ask me questions about the Bible, faith, etc., anytime.
OK, got it? Now close your eyes… 🙂
