Is Fortune Telling Allowed By God In the Bible?

Speak the Truth
Hey Andy, is fortune telling allowed by God in the Bible?

Hi, no, the Bible tells us that God does not permit His people to inquire of fortune tellers (Leviticus 19:31).

Who Consult the Spirits Of the Dead

In fact, not only will God cut off from the community those who put their trust in mediums or in those who consult the spirits of the dead (Leviticus 20:6), but He requires that those of His people who are mediums, or who consult the spirits of the dead, to be put to death (Leviticus 20:27) – that’s how serious He is against such.

Why Would Somebody Want to Consult Mediums?

Even God expressed His confusion about this, for why would His people even think to consult mediums: “Someone may say to you, ‘Let’s ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead. With their whisperings and mutterings, they will tell us what to do.’ But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? Should the living seek guidance from the dead? Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark.” (Isaiah 8:19–20)

You’ve Got to Admit

You’ve got to admit, He does pose a good question. I mean, why consult the spirits of the dead, who neither know the future nor speak the Truth? Wouldn’t it make more sense to consult the living God with such things?
