My Views on Abortion

Hey Andy, what are your views on Abortion?

Abortion, wow! Going for a tough topic right off the bat there, eh?

First off, I’m pro-life – I neither believe in, nor agree with, abortion.

My first reason for this is because I myself was born with a genetic-thing, and when I asked about how it came about, the doctor told me “it occurred at conception”. In other words, while I was in the womb, there was nothing that my mom did wrong or ate wrong, or that the doctor gave to her. It was decided at conception – the mutated genetic thing that I would have all my life was decided when my dad’s sperm joined with my mom’s egg. Everything was decided for me at that point – regardless of what trimester (or whatever it’s called) or phase I was in while in the womb, this was already decided about me – even before I had a heartbeat or even looked like a human baby. You may argue with me using big scientific words that I don’t understand, you could even break it down for me, but I believe that life begins at conception.

Secondly, since I do like to base everything on the Bible here, there are a couple places where the Bible supports this:

1. All throughout the Hebrew Scriptures (a.k.a. The Old Testament), the womb is referred to as the place that gives life. A closed up womb is often compared to the grave and a waterless desert.
2. Judges 13:5-6 = God dedicated Samson from the womb
3. Prophets speak God’s words about Him (Isaiah 44:2, Isaiah 44:24, Isaiah 49:5) forming them in the womb before they were born.
4. Psalm 139:12-14 – David said, “You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I’m fearfully and wonderfully made…”
5. Jeremiah 1:5 – God told Jerry, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
6. Galatians 1:15– Paul said, “But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by His grace, was pleased…”
7. In Luke 1:34-35, just after the angel Gabriel to proclaim God’s plan to Mary, she asked how could it be since she’s still a virgin – The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.” So even as the Messiah was in the womb, long before being considered a living baby in today’s world, it was proclaimed that He would be called the Son of God.”

Again, you may try to persuade me into believing otherwise, and feel free to bring science into the conversation, but it will be a waste of both our times. A human baby is a living human baby at conception, even if it doesn’t yet look human or have everything developed inside.
